Terms of Service
Introduction
The Terms of Service (ToS) provide the basic rules for both players and land owners to follow. They also define a set of rules to follow using the Group chat. Below we have collaboratively tried to explain our ToS in more detail, so no questions are left unanswered.
Playing CrystalCraze
2. Visiting Hosting Lands
Point 2.1 of the ToS states:
Players must obey the rules of the lands they visit [...]
Details about some specific topics are:
Flying
Flying while playing Crystal Craze is not generally forbidden. It's the decision of the land owner who can use two different mechanisms to control whether or not players are allowed to fly:
- Land settings: If the region is set to block flying, Crystal Craze players are not allowed to fly either. The basket will recognize that and get locked after a short time when the player doesn't stop flying. This holds true regardless of how the Crystal Craze Post is configured.
- Crystal Craze Post: The land owner can enable or disable flying using the Crystal Craze Post. The chosen setting is shown on both the player's HUD's in the region as well as on the Crystal Craze Post. If flying is allowed using the Post, it will only take effect if the land allows flying as well.
This allows for three different general settings:
- Everyone can fly: If flying is allowed both in the land settings and the Crystal Craze Post settings, everyone is allowed to fly.
- Visitors can fly, Crystal Craze players can not fly: If the land allows flying while the Post is set to block it, Visitors who're not playing Crystal Craze are allowed to fly while players will have to hunt Crystals and Clusters on foot.
- No one can fly: If the land is set to block flying, neither players nor other visitors can fly.
Recommendations
Players are advised to check both their HUD and the land settings upon arrival in a Crystal Craze location. If flying isn't allowed they want to avoid getting the basket locked. If flying is allowed, players on foot will be at a disadvantage since flying (without speed enhancers) is roughly 3.12 times faster than running. (Flying remains optional of course.)
Landowners are advised to be aware of the settings they have in place. They want to efficiently communicate whether they want players to fly or not by using the Crystal Craze Post so that players won't feel treated unfairly (e. g. being told off or banned) when they could not have known that flying wasn't intended due to misleading settings. This also helps to avoid having to deal with such situations in the first place.
Caveats
- Some Second Life Viewers allow users to ignore the region flag that disables flying, enabling them to fly anyway. The basket will still get locked doing so.
- Land owners can change the Crystal Craze Post settings while players are already hunting crystals on the land. In these cases the HUD might take a while to update the fly symbol. If the basket gets locked even when both land settings and HUD seem to allow flying, players can re-enter the region in order to force the HUD to update accordingly.
Hosting Crystal Craze On Your Land
1. No discrimination of any kind.
Point 1 of the "Hosting Crystal Craze On Your Land" ToS states:
A landowner rules over their land and we rule over the services we provide to both landowners and players alike. We at CrystalCraze strongly object to discrimination of any kind [...]
Discrimination Defined
Discrimination is defined as:
[...] the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of ethnicity, age, sex, or disability.
Examples of discrimination:
- Landowners banning players based on their avatar's ethnicity, age, sex, or disability.
- Locations that only allow avatars of specific ethnicity, race, sex, and species. (Humans only, no furries, dinkies, etc... allowed.)
- Locations that use height detectors or have height requirements.
- Landowners using racist or derogatory slurs against others.
Examples that are NOT considered discrimination:
- Landowners requiring players to have Payment info On File (POF) in order to access their land.
- Landowners forbidding under-aged and child avatars from Mature and Adult-rated sims to comply with Linden Lab's ToS.
2. No distortion of our game rules.
Landowners cannot introduce rules that prevent players from playing our games as they were intended. This ensures players can enjoy the game without fear of consequences or uncertainty about how it should be played at any location.
Running, occasional bumping into each other, and collecting unattended clusters are all essential parts of the gameplay.
Unattended Defined
If a cluster can be taken, it was not properly guarded and is considered unattended—making it fair game.
Examples of distortion of our game rules:
- Landowners forbidding players to run in range of a dispenser. (Having a "walk-only" rule).
- Landowners forbidding players to take clusters other players clicked previously. (Having a "no stealing" rule.)
Examples that are NOT considered distortion of the game rules:
- Landowners requiring players to collect purple crystals and not just higher tier crystals. (This still allows the game to be played as it was designed to be played.)
